Navigating in poor visibility / Night Navigation
Enhance your navigation and mountain skills by mastering navigation in poor-visibility conditions, often referred to as night navigation. This course will focus on key techniques such as pacing, timing, compass bearings, contour interpretation, and relocation. Participants will learn a variety of strategies to refine and elevate their navigation proficiency.
The course will span 4 to 5 hours, including a 1-hour revision session as daylight diminishes. A minimum of three participants is required, with a maximum of five.
Prior navigation experience is essential for this course. Attendees should have completed our 1-day Intermediate Mountain Skills course, hold an NNAS Silver qualification, or be proficient mountain walkers with solid navigation skills.

All course materials needed will be provided, including:
- Map
- Compass
- Roamer
You will need to bring personal kit, to include:
- Head Torch (suitable to night time walking)
- Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
- Additional warm top
- Hat and Gloves
- Sturdy boots or shoes suitable for the terrain
- Day Sack
- At least 2 litres of water
- A packed lunch
- Any medication you may need
