Introductory Mountain Skills Course
£80 Per Person (normally a minimum of four people required)
1 Day Introduction to Mountain Skills.
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental skills of mountain navigation and personal safety. Participants will learn how to develop effective navigational strategies and will be introduced to dynamic decision-making and risk management techniques essential for safe travel in mountainous terrain. It concentrates on teaching clients to navigate using footpaths, linear features and more prominent contour features.

- Planning a mountain journey
- Taking the correct equipment
- Different types of maps
- Map work (including orientation, identification of features, danger areas)
- Mountain Weather
- Introduction to Pacing
- Introduction to Timings
- Introduction to using a Compass
- Introduction to Contours
- Emergency procedures
- The Countryside Code
All course materials needed will be provided, including:
- Map
- Compass
- Roamer
You will need to bring personal kit, to include:
- Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
- Additional warm top
- Hat and Gloves
- Sturdy boots or shoes suitable for the terrain
- Day Sack
- At least 2 litres of water
- A packed lunch
- Any medication you may need
