£80 Per Person (normally a minimum of four people required)

1 Day Intermediate Mountain Skills

This course is intended for individuals who have completed the 1-day Introduction to Mountain Skills or who already possess a solid foundation in route planning, map reading, and navigating established paths.

Building on these core skills, the course introduces techniques for navigating away from marked trails over short distances, correcting navigational errors, and accurately determining one’s position at any point. Additionally, the course provides more in-depth instruction on movement and security on steep ground, equipping participants with practical methods to manage these environments safely and effectively.

Course content summary:

  • Planning your adventure
  • Compass work (including, following bearings, back bearings, aiming off, alignment of features)
  • Accurate Pacing and timing
  • Contour interpretation
  • Understanding Mountain Weather
  • Progress through steep rocky terrain
  • First Aid in the mountains
  • Emergency procedures
  • Access in the mountains
  • Countryside Code

All course materials needed will be provided, including:

  • Map
  • Compass
  • Roamer

You will need to bring personal kit, to include: 

  • Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
  • Additional warm top
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Sturdy boots or shoes suitable for the terrain
  • Day Sack
  • At least 2 litres of water
  • A packed lunch
  • Any medication you may need
