Lead Instructor
About Me
I am a qualified Mountain Leader with many years’ experience delivering mountain skills and navigation training to people of all backgrounds and abilities. I am also a member of the training team at the National Scout Adventures Centre in the Ogwen Valley, where I teach core mountain skills in a challenging and inspiring environment.
Before committing fully to a career in the outdoors, I served as a senior police officer. This role developed my strengths as a critical decision-maker, professional risk assessor and manager, and a leader capable of operating calmly and effectively under extreme pressure. These skills now underpin my approach to instruction in the mountains, where sound judgement, clear communication, and safety are paramount.
My passion is helping others build the confidence to explore the hills safely and responsibly, while developing a deep respect for the landscapes we move through. The mountains are very much part of who I am. My family has farmed the land for centuries; during the reign of Henry VIII, they tended Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) from Hafod y Llan, the farm at the start of the Watkin Path. It is a genuine privilege to now guide others through these same hills, sharing both practical skills and stories along the way..
Our Courses
Our Mountain Skills Courses can be run anywhere in the UK although are mainly concentrated in the areas of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Lake District due to travel constraints.
The NNAS courses can be run across much of North Wales and the North Western region of England.
